Nissan Heritage: 1910 - 2009

Nissan Motor Company was founded in Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture in 1933. The company has 16 production sites in Japan and abroad and offers products and services in more than 160 countries worldwide.

Many significant milestones have been experienced since 1933.  In 1937, the Datsun Type 15 became the first mass-produced Japanese vehicle. In 1960, Nissan Motor Corporation USA (NMC) was established in Gardena, California, the same year that witnessed the birth of Datsun?s first sports car, the SPL 210. 1969, Datsun introduced the "Z" as a 1970 model; the 240Z quickly became the best-selling sports car in the world.

Throughout all this, offices and manufacturing facilities were opened around the world, and sales continued to rise. Most recently in 2009, the Renault-Nissan Alliance recognized its 10-year anniversary, the Nissan LEAF was unveiled, and Nissan inaugurated a new plant in St. Petersburg, Russia.
